I like this a lot. In a sense it reflects the way we think when creating something new. Even if we don't feel we have such strict categories in our minds, we probably do.

In some ways we do think in these categories, and for me, the real creativity comes out when I think of a new way to meld a couple categories together, rather than trying to make a new category from scratch. For example, the Jedi is a cool concept that might have come about from someone trying to meld samurais or knights with Shaolin mystics in the far future. There's probably an infinite number of ways to meld those elements, but that one guy (whoever invented Jedis) mixed 'em up that particular way.
